Presentation of Scouts en Gidsen Vlaanderen

Scoutism started in Belgium in 1910 with the foundation of the "Belgian Catholic Scouts" (the non-Catholic scouts formed "Boy Scouts de Belgique"), renamed in 1912 "Baden Powell Belgian Catholic Scouts" (BPBBS). In 1913, BPBBS recognized the first Dutch-speaking scout group, founded in Antwerp by Georges de Hasque as "1e Antwerpen". The first girls guides group was founded in 1915, named "Baden Powell Belgian Girl Guides" (BPBGG). In 1916, G. de Hasque founded the first Flemish sea scouts group, and BPBBS was renamed BPBBSS (Baden Powell Belgian Boy and Sea Scouts).

In 1927, BPBBSS formed a Dutch-speaking and a French-speaking section, Verbond der Katholieke padvinders van België and Fédération du Scoutisme Catholique Belge, respectively. BPBGG followed the same path in 1929, forming Associatie der Katholieke Padvindsters van België and Guides Catholique de Belgique (KPB/GCB). In 1930, BPBBSS eventually split into Vlaamsch Verbond der Katholieke Scouts (VVKS) and Fédération des Scouts Catholiques (FSC). KPB became in 1945 Katholieke Meisjesgidsen van België (KMGB), renamed Vlaams Verbond van Katholieke Meisjesgidsen (VVKM) in 1961.
In 1973, VVKM and VVKS formed a joint structure, VVKM-VVKS, renamed in 1982 Vlaams Verbond van Katholieke Scouts en Meisjesgidsen (VVKSM). Membership of VVKSM reached 70,000 in 1995.
In 2006, VVKSM was renamed Scouts en Gidsen Vlaanderen.

The letters "VVKSM", each followed by a square dot, all in yellow, are placed below the emblem.
